Meet some of our staff
Bill Stewart
Bill Stewart, President Bill Stewart's father Ernie Stewart founded The River Rat's Canoe Rental in 1979 the year before Bill was born. When people ask Bill how long he has been doing this he will sometimes reply, "my entire life". Bill received his Bachelor of Science in Outdoor recreation from Middle Tennessee State University. He also spent two summers raft guiding on some of the Southeastern United States classic whitewater runs. Bill took over The River Rat's Canoe Rental after his father passed away in 2005.
Quinn Brandon
Quinn Brandon, Secretary/Front desk operations Quinn Brandon is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Memphis. Quinn has been with River Rats since 2006.
Burton Stewart
Burton Stewart, Assistant Manager Burton has been with The River Rat's Canoe Rental since 2006. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. In the winter he works in guest relations at Beaver Creek ski resort in Colorado.
Humble beginning.... Ernie Stewart purchased his first canoe in 1972. Out of his passion for canoeing grew a business. He started The River Rat's Canoe Rental in 1979 as a summer job from his school teaching job. Ernie's son Bill was born in 1980 and he quickly took up his fathers passion. We are proud to say The River Rat's Canoe Rental has been owned and operated by the same family for 30 years.
